Walking Through the City's Autumn Palette of Colors

As autumn settles over Budapest, my hometown transforms into a magical canvas of colors. During the first weekend of November, my journey led me to several nature-filled spots. 

Walking through City Park (Városliget), the brilliant reds of the maple trees catch the eye. The morning sunlight streamed through the branches, creating a soft glow, while the leaves of the large sycamore trees crunched underfoot, enhancing the cozy atmosphere.
The charming little bridge, arching gracefully over the lake near Vajdahunyad Castle, and the red-and-white striped hot air balloon floating high above the city, formed a picture-perfect scene that captured the charm and beauty of Budapest in autumn.

Close to my workplace, there’s a lovely park lush with a variety of trees, and at this time of year, the vibrant reds of the maple trees are simply stunning. The thick branches of the trees reach toward the sky, as if trying to touch the clouds above. Using the M.Zuiko 14-42mm lens, I captured the sun's rays by setting the aperture to a smaller value (f/18-f/22), which helped create a sunburst effect. 

It's the perfect time to frame the essence of fall in this magnificent city. 

My next stop was the National Botanical Garden in Vácrátót, a peaceful haven just outside the city. As autumn settled in, the garden transformed into a beautiful mix of colors, with golden and amber leaves carpeting the ground. The rich reds and fiery oranges of the trees contrasted perfectly against the deep green of the evergreens, giving the whole place a charming, almost magical feel. 

One of the highlights of the garden was the lovely waterfalls. With the shutter speed set to around 1.6 seconds, I was able to capture the water in a smooth, silky blur, which gave the scene a really dreamy feel.


I also had the chance to use my Pentacon 50mm f/1.8 vintage lens, and it was perfect for capturing close-up portraits of the beautiful flowers. The lens' shallow depth of field and creamy bokeh really made the vibrant colors pop, creating stunning, detailed shots that truly brought the flowers to life.

From Gellért Hill to Bartók Béla Avenue: A Perfect November Walk

On Sunday afternoon, my mother and I decided to head up Gellért Hill and take a stroll around the 11th district. I brought along my M.Zuiko 45mm f/1.8 lens to capture the beauty of the autumn colors. From the top of the hill, the view was just stunning, and even though it was pretty cold, with our hats and scarves on, the walk felt really pleasant. The Citadella is still under renovation, but the Liberty Statue might soon be visible without scaffolding. The setting sun reflected off the Liberty (Szabadság) and Elizabeth (Erzsébet) bridges, and the clouds turned all kinds of colors. The Mol Campus stood out against the skyline, and I could even spot the giant Ferris wheel in the distance. Urban Curves and Lines: The Samyang Fisheye in Action

As a photography lover, I’m always on the lookout for lenses that offer unique perspectives and creative possibilities. That's why I added the Samyang 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye lens to my collection, and while I don’t carry it everywhere, it never fails to impress me with its performance when I do use it. I bought it secondhand, and it arrived in almost perfect condition. It’s quickly become one of my favorite tools for shooting urban architecture, and I’ve captured some truly striking images with it. The fisheye lens is all about dramatic, wide-angle distortion. Despite being a manual focus lens, I’ve found it incredibly easy to work with, and the results speak for themselves.
